Fresh Cyclonic Circulation Likely Over North Andaman Sea; Rainfall Expected Across Several Regions

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that a fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 20. Following this, a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the central Bay of Bengal by October 22. The system is projected to move northwestward, potentially intensifying further and influencing weather patternsf across multiple states.

Rainfall Forecast

The anticipated weather system may result in increased rainfall activity across Odisha, with moderate to heavy rain expected on October 23, 24, and 25. Kerala and Mahe can expect moderate showers during this period, while light rainfall is forecasted for Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana.

Rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Surrounding Areas

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecasted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal region until October 20. Today (October 18), heavy rain is expected at isolated locations in Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, and Erode districts.

For Chennai and nearby areas, the sky will likely remain partly cloudy, with occasional light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some parts. The maximum temperature is forecasted to range between 33-34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will likely be 25-26 degrees Celsius.

Upcoming Rainfall Over the Weekend

Heavy rainfall is anticipated over the weekend (October 20 and 21) in isolated places across the ghat regions of Coimbatore and Tirupur, as well as Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Pudukkottai, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts.

Cyclone Possibility

Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, has stated that it is currently too early to confirm the development of a cyclone. The IMD is closely monitoring the system and will provide daily updates regarding its progression and forecast.
