75 Years of Tamil Cinema on a Longest Cake

French Loaf of Oriental Cuisines Private Limited baked a Photo Cake measuring 100 meters in length and weighing around 1000 Kgs as part of the Joy of Giving week celebrations.

The theme for the cake was 75 years of Tamil Cinema – from Pattinathar (1936) to Mangatha (2011).

Each kilo of the cake was priced at Rs. 1500 and the entire funds raised from this event would be utilised to renovate the kitchen of Mahesh Memorial Trust, which caters to pediatric cancer patients.

Speaking on the event, eminent Ad film maker P. Jayendra said, “The monthly running costs of the Mahesh Memorial Pediatric Oncology Center is upwards of Rs. 1 lakh, several other incidental costs not included. The 50-bed pediatric ward is essentially targeted at children between 3 to 10 years of age and the numbers of the needy and deserving are forever increasing. The Joy of Giving Week 2011 is yet another brilliant fund-raising event, without which NGOs such as ours will close up for want of monetary assistance. The film world has forever been supporting NGOs as ours, and we cannot thank them enough for their spontaneous support.”

Mr. M Mahadevan, Managing Director, Oriental Cuisines, summed up his reasons for participation in this annual affair:  “We feel humbled when we see millions desperate for help—monetary or otherwise. A number of individuals and corporates would be happy to contribute, but are unable to find the right ones that touch their souls. Events like The Joy of Giving Week bridge the gap admirably between these two sides. It is our fervent hope that while donations should pour in during this week, NGOs will receive round-the-year support. After all, they function 365 days a year, 24x7 each day. Without these NGOs, the number of those who are in need will only climb astronomically. Our heart goes out to all those who make occasions as these memorable, with their valuable contributions and other forms of support.”
