For the first-ever time: 11 subways, 20 roads closed - flooding in 523 locations in Chennai Metro City!

With the recent persistent heavy downpour over the last few days due to the depression zone, 523 locations in Chennai Metro City have been affected by flooding.
With 11 subways and 20 roads closed for traffic, there was a rather slow and disturbed movement of vehicles in Chennai Metro City.
With excess water NOT BEING RELEASED ON A LARGE SCALE FROM THE CITY’S MAJOR WATER RESOURCE RESERVOIRS, THIS IS THE FIRST EVER TIME IN Chennai Metro City history that such a large number of locations have been flooded!
With the onset of the northeast monsoon rainy season and its intensification, there has been persistent downpour in Chennai Metro City from 25th October!
As on day-before-yesterday, 49.55 cm of rainfall has been recorded!
A maximum rainfall on a single day of 20 cm on 6th November and maximum rainfall of 23 cm was recorded in Mylapore. Rainwater inundated 317 locations in Chennai Metro City.
As rainwater flooded and stagnated, 6 subways were closed. er on, GCC staff removed the stagnant water in different places gradually. As the rain persisted, the number of flood-affected locations increased to 400! Out of this, with the task of pumping out water from the subways and 160 other locations had been taken up! After this, the task of removal of water from 160 more locations was taken up.
As 13.6 cm of rain was received from day-before-yesterday till yesterday due to the depression zone, 502 locations were flooded with rainwater in Chennai Metro City!
More than 5’ of water was stagnated in the areas of Madhavaram, T Nagar, Ayanavaram, Konnur High Road, Egmore Connemara Library, and KK Nagar Hospital.
116 trees fell off in a single day yesterday Thursday, 11th November)! GCC Staff and the Police department removed them immediately. 253 trees have been uprooted in Chennai Metro City since 25th October till yesterday!
11 subways have been closed!
