HawkSpex mobile app scans objects and reveals information

You may be able to check whether there are any insect or worms in the fruit that you are about to eat by using your smartphone. The engineers have discovered a smartphone app that scans the food item and know what is inside.
The engineers working in the company Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation in Germany, have developed the App called HawkSpex Mobile app. This App enables to scan the objects with the smartphone and know the inside contents.
For example, if you want to scan an apple, open the App HawkSpex in your smartphone and scan the apple. Once the apple is scanned, all details regarding the insecticide residues, insects/worms and their body parts can be seen on the screen of the smartphone.
Though there are several scanning devices in the market, it is necessary to install an additional prism inside the smartphone for the scanning ability. However, with this new App, this is not necessary – the scanning can be done just by using the App using the smartphone camera.
This App can be of great utility to check the quality of the various food items and also beneficial to the agricultural industry. It is announced that this App will be put up for commercial sales before the end of this year.
