Crowd everywhere in the last 2 days in Chennai ahead of stringent lockdown!!
Crowds thronged not only grocery shops and supermarkets but also various mobile phones and home appliance repair shops. This happened just in the day and half before another week-long stringent lockdown began in TN from today.
From the evening of Saturday itself, customers started visiting salons in huge numbers and this happened till Sunday noon. There is still no clarity available regarding whether the TN government has allowed spas and salons to function for a short time before the total lockdown from today.
As per a resident belonging to Adambakkam, it was clear that the authorities did not bother much about the opening of salons and spas in the last 2 days. He added that most salons in his locality were full of people.
Since Saturday, orders for repairing have increased suddenly as many came to the shop to get their home appliances repaired. This was mentioned by the Madipakkam based home appliances repair shop owner. It is true that in the large service centres there were many who waited in long queues to get their home appliances repaired before the stringent total lockdown.
According to a resident from Nanganallur, home appliances in kitchens were very important and no work could be carried out if they do not work properly. She added that she came to get her home appliances repaired as another lockdown would start from Monday.
Many pawn shops belonging to Adambakkam and Madipakkam were busy yesterday as many came to these shops to get their jewels pledged for money to meet the living expenses. It must be noted that daily wagers, roadside vegetable and fruit vendors would not function for another week.
An activist named Mr. P. Balamurugan spoke about how it would be beneficial for the public if the TN government identifies such vendors in each neighbourhood and gives them carts to sell vegetables in the lockdown. To stock up on the tools and spare parts, many electricians plus others like plumbers, carpenters, various skilled workers etc. crowded hardware stores in the last 2 days.
It was pointed out by an electrician from Keelkattalai in Chennai that in the normal scenario customer’s money would be used for busy tools etc. He explained that the situation now is different and lockdown would begin from Monday for another week. He added that tools were purchased in advance due to the total lockdown.
