Good news for the Chennai residents now!!

By the month of May, the six laning works on the 8.6km stretch between Kottivakkam and Akkarai on the ECR or east Coast Road in Chennai would be completed. This was revealed by Mr. E.V. Velu, minister for Highways and PWD.

The minister was very busy yesterday reviewing the six laning works in ECR. Along with him was present Mr. R. Selvaraj, Highways dept secretary, Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, Chennai collector plus few officials from the Highways dept. The minister explained that after shifting all the utilities the widening works along the construction of SWD would be completed by May.

It must be taken into account that the TNEB has completed about 75percent of works till now and has shifted electricity poles and transformers etc. Not only that, the Chennai Metro Water dept has shifted water pipelines and underground sewage lines and has completed about 65percent of their work.  By the end of March month, works on the Kottivakkam to Palavakkam stretch would be completed.

The minister Mr. E.V. Velu later spoke about the status of the proposed elevated road from Thiruvanmiyur to Akkarai. He added that the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin has directed that the feasibility of elevated roads be studied. It must not be forgotten that there were many representations from the residential associations and VIPs etc regarding constructing an elevated road to ease traffic congestion between the above said places. From Thiruvanmiyur to Akkarai, it takes about 45 minutes as there are 137 cross streets connected to the ECR.

Point is that the detailed project reports of the elevated road are underway and the reports would be viewed by the officers.
