Starting next month, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) will microchip one lakh pet dogs to track owners and prevent abandonment. The microchips will store details like the owner`s information, vaccination records, and sterilization status.
GCC is also considering limiting the number of pet dogs per household based on available space and neighborhood conditions. Once a database is created, pet owners will receive vaccination reminders through an app.
Microchipping will be mandatory, with fees to be finalized soon. Camps will be set up across 200 city divisions, and GCC veterinary clinics, along with private and government veterinary hospitals, will offer the service.
