Be careful!! Side effects of consuming a fad diet for weight loss!!

Having excess body weight could result in many serious health issues is a well known fact.  People try several quick ways to get rid of excess weight from them.

For the sake of quick weight loss, many of us consume a fad diet without even knowing the side effects they could lead to. Shocking but true!!

What exactly is a fad diet?

By FAD diet or fad diet, we actually mean a frequently advertised diet which promises rapid results by means of specific food restrictions, extreme eating patterns etc. It is a diet that is popular for a short time only. Bitter fact regarding fad diets is that there would be no scientific evidence to support its claims.

Disadvantages or side effects caused by eating fad diet are

Nutritional deficiencies:

In fad diets, micronutrients as well as macronutrients would be eliminated and it could lead to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. It was brought to light by World Health Organisation/WHO that restrictive eating could lead to deficiencies in iron, calcium, vitamin D. By this, there are possibilities of getting problems like anaemia, osteoporosis etc.

Slowed metabolism:

When a person is on crash diet and extreme food restriction etc then their body would go into starvation mode. This would slow down the metabolism in them. By this, there would be muscle loss and makes it harder to maintain weight in the long run.

More chances of heart disease:

It is worthy to note that fad diets that are rich in saturated fats and low fibres etc could impact heart health negatively. Truth is that diets like ketogenic diets could increase cholesterol levels in us and there are more chances of cardiovascular diseases. Please take care.

Digestive problems:

When fibre intake gets reduced, then we could get gut based issues in us. This happens when we eat restricted food types. By eating low fibre diets, we could get issues like constipation, bloating etc.

Loss of muscle mass:

Instead of fat loss there would be muscle loss by eating fad diets for weight loss. Point is that lack of proteins would weaken the muscles and this would reduce overall strength and endurance etc.

Weight rebound:

Not many of us would know that the fact that intake of fad diets would trigger rebound effects also. It means once we get back to our normal eating pattern, then the body could regain weight quickly. This regained weight could even surpass the initial weight.

Social isolation:

When we consume fad diets etc, then following dietary rules would isolate us from the social events that involve food.

More stress, anxiety etc:

 

By eating fad diets for weight loss, there are chances of getting more stress and more anxiety etc. So, please be careful.
