The state of Tamil Nadu does not see heavy Monsoon rains during the Southwest Monsoon season as it lies in the rain shadow area. In fact, there are a very few occasions when good Monsoon rainfall activity.

Chennai has good chance of rains today as Veppa Salanam Rains to kick start in Tamil Nadu from today, while rains slow down in Cauvery Catchment, in the coming days the inflow into Mettur will slowly reduce.

The Suppression still persists, hence, as updated in the last post two days ago, rains will continue but from non towering Stratus or Nimbostratus clouds when Sea breeze moves in. It will all be brief spells.

An official from the Chennai Meteorological Centre explained that due to the formation of the thermal convection phenomenon, there are prospects of rain or rain with thunder in 1 or 2 places today (25th July) in Tamil Nadu.
