Why there is no sufficient rainfall during this monsoon?Meteorological Department explains
Southwest monsoon rains withdraw on 30th October and the northeast monsoon set in. Though the monsoon set in late, heavy rainfall was expected but there was only sporadic rainfall in some places.

Meteorological department has mentioned: A low pressure trough (depression) can be seen over southwest Bay of Bengal near Kanyakumari. One or two spells of rain or thundershower is likely to occur.

The Meteorological department has mentioned that a low pressure trough (depression) can be seen over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lankan coast. In view of this heavy rain.

More rainfall expected in Tamil Nadu for the next 48 hours
Chennai received a brief spell of rain on Sunday due to the formation of an easterly wave. Data from the Regional Meteorological Department showed that Chennai airport received 26.6mm, whereas the city got a meagre 3.2mm.

Dr.S.Balachandran, Director ACWC while speaking to the media said: There was dearth for northeast monsoon rains for the last few days in Tamil Nadu. Now it is soon to be revived. A trough in easterlies.

Rains due to upper air cyclonic circulation
The upper air cyclonic circulation over north Andaman Sea and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal now lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighborhood. Due to this, there will be rains.
