It would be possible to detect cancer in the early stage itself with the help of PET- CT scans. In this regard, equipment for PET-CT scans were provided to as many as 7 medical college hospitals in various regions belonging to Tamil Nadu. This would help the public to have easy access to the facility.  Advanced scanning facilities would be brought to each district in TN. This was mentioned by the health minister of TN Mr. M. Subramanian.

The health minister made his presence felt at the 77th annual conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association or IRIA.

It is superb to note that the TN govt is very much interested in providing these advanced facilities to the rural people and poor/needy etc. About 35 new digital X-ray machines were provided for the government hospitals in Tamil Nadu. There are 43 MRI scans and 136 CT scans at the government medical college hospitals and headquarters hospitals etc in TN.

Artificial Intelligence or AI could speed up the work of the radiologists and this was according to Mr. Myilswamy Annadurai, former director of ISRO. Mr. Gurdeep Singh, newly inducted president of IRIA spoke about how time would reveal whether AI would be boon or bane. It is learnt that IRIA would have teaching and fellowship programmes in AI for its members.

Others who spoke in the event were Mr.V.N. Varaprasad president of IRIA, Mr. C. Amarnath, organising chairman and Mr. I. Murali Krishna, secretary general of IRIA.
