There is an info doing rounds in all the social networking media that the charges for the electricity bills are very likely to go up. TANGEDCO, when giving a new power supply connection to the customer, imposes a multiple-charge including the registration fee, meter insurance, etc.

After the power supply connection and installation, electricity consumption charges are collected once in 2 months.

Recently, there was an announcement that TANGEDCO engineers and employees are to get a hike in salary by 3.57 times more.

This will entail an annual additional expense of Rs. 1318 Crores.

In this situation, there is a hot rumour doing rounds inall the social networking media including WhatsApp that electricity charges are being revised upwards.

An official from TANGEDCO explained:

‘TANGEDCO files its data regarding the total earnings, revenues required, etc., during the month of November to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. Accordingly, the commission conducts discussion with the public and obtain their views and suggestions and then revises the electricity charges.`

When the survey of public opinion was conducted in the year 2017, the Commission did not make any revision. The government reduced the subsidy given to the Electricity Board.

Presently, the Electricity Board has proposed to increase the electricity charges and has submitted a request to the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. So far, the Commission has not responded regarding this.

However, the info is doing rounds in the social networking media that the electricity bill rates are very likely to be revised upwards very shortly.
